Our Team
Dr. Courtney Camillus is the founder and CEO of Camillus Trial Consulting. She received her bachelor’s degree in psychology, magna cum laude, from Ohio Wesleyan University, and received her Ph.D. in psychology from The Ohio State University. Dr. Camillus runs every aspect of the firm, working with attorneys to conduct focus groups and mock trials, assisting with witness preparation and theme development, and actively participating in creating voir dire questions and selecting a jury at trial. Dr. Camillus has developed her own, proprietary psychological assessment that she uses with focus group and mock jury participants, which provides invaluable insight and empirical evidence to aid attorneys in knowing what jurors they need to avoid.

Dan Volkema has been a civil trial lawyer since his admission to the practice of law in 1979. He has been recognized by Ohio Superlawyers Magazine as one of Ohio's Top Lawyers for over a decade and by Business First as one of the community's top trial lawyers. Additionally, Dan has been selected by his peers to be included in the publication The Best Lawyers in America. He is "AV" rated by Martindale-Hubbell and is on their Preeminent Lawyers list. Dan has studied the art and science of trial advocacy for over 40 years and has been a frequent lecturer on various subjects of trial practice. He believes we stand on the shoulders of the great trial lawyers and social scientists who have generously shared what they have learned about how people make decisions in and out of the courtroom. Learning from these great people over his career, Dan has been able to help his clients obtain numerous multi-million-dollar verdicts and settlements.

Christina received her bachelor's of science in economics from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in 2000. She has worked in the fields of strategic consulting, financial services, engineering consulting, and law. Christina brings a strong background in marketing, strategy development, training, general business operations, and consumer education. Christina oversees administration and operations of the firm.

Leslie received her bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Bowling Green State University in 2002. Leslie has over 10 years of experience working in law firms as a legal secretary and paralegal. Leslie manages logistics for our focus groups, mock juries, and shadow juries.

John is the co-founder of Camillus Trial Consulting. He received his bachelor’s degree in philosophy, summa cum laude, from Ohio Wesleyan University, and received his law degree from Yale Law School. John is a trial lawyer with an active civil litigation trial practice. At Camillus Trial Consulting, he utilizes his legal background to work with Dr. Camillus on adjusting trial strategies she develops to minimize the legal obstacles. He conducts focus groups, prepares juror and mock juror questionnaires, and analyzes focus group responses and mock juror deliberations. John regularly assists attorneys in voir dire and jury selection. He has also conducted and published academic research in juror mental processes. John co-authored the paper "Ambivalent Sexism in Context: Hostile and Benevolent Sexism Moderate Bias Against Female Drivers" in the journal Basic and Applied Social Psychology. In short, the research addressed whether stereotypes of women as poor drivers impacts jury liability determinations in auto accident lawsuits.

Sheila Garcia, MBA

Sheila holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Notre Dame and an MBA, with honors, from Boston University. In her early career in financial services, she advanced to become a vice president at Merrill Lynch, where her role included active involvement in HR. Later, as founder of a business focused on career-writing services, she honed a skill set centered around asking critical questions, listening to individuals’ voices, and synthesizing their responses into clear and meaningful takeaways. Blending her writing and analytical skills with study in the areas of decision science and jury biases, she is exceptionally skilled at identifying and reporting nuances of jury mindsets and leads many of our shadow juries.
Becky received her bachelor's degree in psychology, magna cum laude, from the University of Notre Dame in 2002, and her master's degree in education from Notre Dame in 2004. Between her formal education and her experience as a teacher, Becky specializes in working with lawyers on how to best explain and communicate complex principles in a manner that jurors will understand and absorb.
